Sparks Clinical Research Division allows physicians and patients to participate in the most current treatments for many of man's most destructive diseases, making those treatments available to our patients right here in Fort Smith. In addition to having access to medications not yet generally available, patients enrolled in the study receive the medications as well as any additional treatments or follow-ups needed for the study without charge. At Sparks, patients can do all this locally, without the time, expense or complications of travel. Participants must meet specific guidelines and patients with certain conditions or characteristics are ruled out of the trials. An Internal Review Board, composed of both medical and lay people, oversees all trials. An attorney is on the board to insure participants' rights, and any adverse effect at any trial site is immediately reported to all sites. In addition, participants may withdraw from the trial at any point. |
