The Prevention Challenge is a reward program for health behavior. Employees who achieve a pre-determined number of the health goals receive a reward from their company. The health goals are:

Blood pressure below 140/90.
No tobacco use.
100% seat belt use.
Total cholesterol below 200 or 10% reduction.
$300 or less in paid health claims a year.
Four or less days missed due to personal illness in a year.
Exercise an average of twice a week for a minimum of twenty minutes to be recorded on exercise forms.
No lost work time due to back pain or injury in 1997.
Participation in nine or more health promotion activities.
Within recommended range for body weight or 15% reduction from previous level.
The program has been piloted with employees at Sparks Health System since 1997. A cost savings of $450,000 in health care costs was experienced in one year.
